720 km without a charging stop: electric long-haul keeps stretching its legs

MAN says its new 6×2 eTGX can travel up to 720 kilometres without intermediate charging — another sign that electric truck range is moving faster than the infrastructure debate.

MAN has used IAA Transportation 2026 to unveil a new generation of its battery-electric eTGX, with the longest-range 6×2 version claimed to travel up to 720 kilometres without intermediate charging.

The new 6×2 tractor uses seven battery packs with up to 644 kWh capacity. MAN says the revised eTGX also gains improved aerodynamics, higher recuperation and a new battery generation. Its 4×2 version is rated at up to 660 km, while MAN says payload can reach 25 tonnes with a standard trailer in the 4×2 configuration.

Why it matters in Australia

The headline range is increasingly becoming less remarkable than the infrastructure needed to use it. For Australian operators, the more useful questions are where megawatt-scale charging could be installed, how charging fits into long-haul work and rest patterns, and whether electricity networks along major freight corridors can support heavy-vehicle charging at scale.

MAN says MCS charging is available for the eTGX and the new generation is due to go on sale in Europe in 2027.
