The short answer
The ATA is asking the Australian Government for another fuel-support package. The association’s requests are proposals, rather than an announcement of new assistance.
The Australian Trucking Association has called for renewed fuel relief, saying transport businesses face continuing pressure from fuel prices.
In its 2 October Friday Facts bulletin, ATA CEO Mathew Munro urged the Australian Government to reduce fuel excise and return the road user charge to zero. He said the charge should be set at zero even if a further excise reduction could not be delivered.
What the ATA is seeking
The association also wants the planned 1 January 2027 increase in the underlying road user charge rate limited to CPI, without a later catch-up adjustment.
Munro called for the Economic Resilience Program’s zero-interest loans to remain available to new applicants.
On fuel-security planning, the ATA wants weekly industry meetings reinstated and chaired at ministerial level. It also wants government to share its level-three and level-four plans with industry partners and prioritise road freight as an essential industry.
A policy call, not a new entitlement
The bulletin sets out the ATA’s requests. It does not announce that government has adopted them or that a new rebate, charge reduction or loan extension is available.
The update adds the association’s current position to the broader freight and fuel debate. WWTG’s earlier TRACK and fuel-security report examines the separate policy of encouraging a shift of freight to rail.
